Overview
October #Beatz is a concert organised by international students in Finland. The idea came from my friend, a passionate music geek, who wanted to organise a big concert for our club Music for Friends Helsinki. We succeeded greatly in 2014, the first year the concert was launched. Over the years (2014–2017), it grew to attract thousands of attendees, reaching a record audience of 600 in 2017.
I took part as the Media and Marketing Lead, responsible for planning and executing marketing campaigns to attract and build an audience for the concert. This included producing visual design, video production, and photography, all aligned with the marketing content and timeline.
The following years, I continued as Marketing and Media Advisor, overseeing the big picture while building our social media presence and strengthening the reputation of the music club.
Results
Audience growth: from ~250 in the first year (2014) to 600 by 2017.
Social media impact: increased following and engagement through consistent marketing campaigns (reach, views, shares).
Partnerships: secured sponsorships and collaborations that supported the concert’s growth.
Academic contribution: wrote my bachelor’s thesis “Multi-camera Video Production for Medium-Sized Concerts” – a guide to multicamera techniques in concert production.

Conclusion
From a small student led initiative, October #Beatz grew into one of the most awaited international student concerts in Helsinki. Over four years (2014–2017), it expanded its audience base, promoted Music for Friends Helsinki club, and gave students a platform to share their passion and work together in music, media, and event production fields. For me personally, it was a defining experience where I was able to blend strategy with creativity, develop practical skills in media production, marketing, and team leadership, and witness firsthand the rise of the audience and community involvement.
