Overview

In 2017, I had the privilege of serving as the Technical Producer for TEDxOtaniemi, a prestigious independently organized TED event in Finland. I led a team of 10 dedicated technicians, overseeing all technical aspects of the production. My responsibilities are tech organising and setup from pre-production to post-production, of which I effectively managed conflicts and building positive team dynamics while staying on top of any emerging issues.


We were honored to have Finland's Prime Minister as one of our speakers. All speakers focused on the theme of Kindness. You can view the event recording on the TEDx YouTube channel.

"I worked with Phuong in organizing TEDxOtaniemi in 2017. She worked as our Technical Director, which means she was responsible for organizing our video/audio production, recruiting technical crew and managing and directing the production through post production. Process

  • Preproduction: Recruiting and train team members, contact equipment sponsors.

  • Production: Stage setup, Testing stream feed, Tech controlling.

  • Post production: Editing and Publishing the talks through TED media uploader.

Results

Event: TEDxOtaniemi, 18 August 2017. Theme: Constructing Kindness

  • 20,000 euros worth of equipment sponsorship

  • 400 attendees at venue (Espoo, Finland)

  • 6 hours livestream feed

  • 75,000 YouTube views (and counting)

  • 13 videos published

Conclusion

The TEDxOtaniemi 2017 production was not only a technical achievement but also a meaningful project aligned with the event’s theme, Constructing Kindness. From assembling and leading a dedicated crew to securing sponsorships and ensuring a seamless live broadcast, the experience demonstrated the power of teamwork, creativity, and adaptability under pressure. The event’s reach included tens of thousands of viewers and a lasting library of talks, which reflects the impact of our work in amplifying ideas worth spreading.

For me personally, it was an opportunity to combine leadership with hands-on production skills, leaving behind not just a series of well-produced talks but also a strengthened community of collaborators committed to bringing inspiring content to a global audience.
